Frequently Asked Questions

Background and Activities of FES

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) is a German political foundation. “Stiftung” is the German word for “foundation”. We are closely associated with the social democratic political camp in Germany. FES is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation, which is largely publicly funded. Both, in Germany and in over 70 countries world-wide, we promote political participation, social justice and international understanding.

FES is neither a donor organisation nor a funding agency. In particular, FES does not:

  • support election campaigns,
  • give financial assistance to secretariats of political parties,
  • engage in civic education or grass root level activities,
  • support single, stand alone activities,
  • cooperate with individuals.

Please also note that FES does not support newly formed organisations as it cannot ascertain that these have a sound foundation and mandate.

We work on the basis of an annual plan and budget. We work with Kenyan partner organisations on agreed lines of engagement. We build and maintain active partnerships.

In case you feel you represent an organisation, which shares our concerns and which could cooperate meaningfully with us, you should send to us a written outline of your institutional background and your ongoing activities. If we share your views and have capacity for the cooperation you are suggesting, we will contact you in order to initiate an appointment for further discussion.

Employment

The FES does not have any vacant positions.

Scholarships

FES Kenya does not award any scholarships.

Applicants should be in their last year of study or should have graduated recently. Internship positions are not paid and FES cannot offer a regular position to outgoing interns.
