FES and two partners, The Youth Agenda (YAA) and Citizens Coalition for Constitutional Change (4Cs) initiated the Political Leadership Development Programme (PLDP) in 2003 as a special intervention for the creation of a transformative political leadership culture in Kenya. The initiatives targets young people and seeks to nurture and promote value driven leadership in a democratic and pluralistic society, and so far over 100 young leaders have benefited from the course and now comprise the relevant voice in both civil society and young political leadership, both locally and regionally.
FES is also engaged in initiatives aimed at nurturing democracy and transformative leadership within political parties through party youth leagues. FES has also begun a new initiative that aims at preparing young trade unionists not only to understand the issues driving the labour movement locally, regionally and globally, but also to become transformative leaders.
